Pony Music Library 34: "Friendship"

I don't have a great deal of time to write here at the moment, so I'll fill in the gap between now and Wednesday's Ponyfic Roundup with a PML entry. This is a song that will need no introduction for most of you!

What? "Friendship"

Who? Aviators

Which? Original song

When? February 2012

Why? One of the most famous songs in the fandom, and another "unleaveoutable" track, this is one that actually took me a while to love. You can tell it's one of Aviators' earlier efforts – it was his 2,000-subs special! – as it's not quite as slick as some as his newer songs. Even so, the essential ingredients are there, and the story of what can be best described as "a friendship problem" and the singer's determination to mend it is perfect. For all Aviators is no longer much of a brony musician, he clearly retains affection for "Friendship", as you'll realise if you listen to "Meet You at the End" from this year. By any measure, a classic.

  1. More Aviators is always good.

Interesting to note the similarities with 'Meet You at the End'.

    1. It's particularly amusing that several people commented on the MYatE page to say they were about to ask why Aviators hadn't credited the original artist for the "Should have known we'd be here tonight" line -- only to realise that he was the original artist! :P

  2. 'Friendship' is my favourite Aviators song. Great lyrics, and it always stirs something in me when I hear it.

    1. "Favourite Aviators song" is a very hard fought title for me. This one is up there, but so are "Open Your Eyes" and a couple of others.
